Larceny Case Defense

Thief.   That is one title most people do not want associated with their name. However, a larceny conviction that is ignored or forgotten can follow a person throughout his or her lifetime.  College admissions, housing options and employment possibilities may all be limited due to a Massachusetts larceny conviction.

When you face criminal charges, protect your future opportunities by choosing a criminal defense lawyer who will fight to protect your rights and your reputation.

Misdemeanor and Felony Larceny

In Massachusetts, there are two categories of larceny. The first is for cases involving the theft of less than $250 dollars in value, and the second is for theft of more than $250 in value.  Both carry stiff penalties and life-long repercussions:

For theft of more than $250 in value, a larceny conviction is considered a felony and can lead to up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.
For theft of less than $250 in value, a larceny conviction is considered a misdemeanor and can lead to up to one year in prison and a fine of $300.

In addition to the criminal penalties, there are repercussions from a larceny conviction that will impact daily life.  Since more and more companies are requiring background checks before approving rental agreements or before offering jobs, it is important to maintain a clean criminal record.  Further, conviction will severely restrict a person’s second amendment gun rights.
